Clarinetist and woodwind doubler Eugene Marquis brings to his playing and teaching a wide range of experience as a professional musician. This includes over 40 years playing 15 sizes of clarinets and saxophones with the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestra. Click on the "Experience" tab above for a list of instruments and music played with the CSO. Other positions include principal clarinet for over thirty years in three other professional orchestras: Cincinnati Ballet Orchestra, Middletown (OH), and Blue Ash/Montgomery (OH).
Other musical experience includes touring Broadway shows, jazz and pop entertainers, recording studio work, and almost everything else between the circus and Pavarotti (yes, as 1st clarinet). Check out a more complete list on the "Experience" tab.
Many of Eugene's students have positions in orchestras, universities, military bands, and NYC Broadway pit work. Add to that many of his students have become successful school music teachers.
Eugene's experience with clarinet choirs started with David Hite's groups at Capital University, and includes playing in the the world's largest clarinet choir at the 2019 International Clarinet Association convention in Knoxville, Tennessee.
His one-person clarinet choir recordings have given him the skills to help High School and College clarinet choirs.
Eugene's growing list of videos on YouTube includes "The Marriage of Figaro Overture", "Barber-Adagio for Strings," and "What Robert Marcellus Taught Me About Reeds." More videos to come soon.
Zoom lessons are personalized to each student. Bring your concerns and troubles. Eugene can help fix bad habits, get students ready for contest and auditions, or fix things that are keeping them from playing their best. His wide orchestral experience, lessons with major orchestra musicians, and his own audition experiences form the basis of how he helps students become successful in auditions, both academic and professional.
He is prepared to teach individuals or groups how to successfully record a large-group multi-track project like his clarinet choir recordings. Also what not to do in such a project.
